I believe that one reason why the church of God at this present moment has so little influence over the world is because the world has so much influence over the church. ~Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892)

5 Things COVID-19 Is Teaching Us About the state of Christianity In America

1: People care more about potentially dying than people actually dying

Haven’t the abortion protestors been saying this for years?  Saints alive, our hypocrisy is sticking out like a cough in crowded elevator. The reason I say that is because it should alarm us. We should be alarmed that last month, Pop-Christians were content to shout down and belittle the anti-abortion activists/abolitionists who were trying to wake everyone up to an actual holocaust, and now these same people are on the forefront of “waking everyone up to a potential”… pandemic? Health crisis? What was it again? A couple thousand dead people over the course of two weeks? Brother, where were you when you last heard that it’s 3500 people a DAY because of abortion?

2: Suddenly, everyone now wants their pastors to stop “just preaching the gospel”

Again, have not the abortion protestors and reconstructionists been saying this for years? Have we not confronted our pastor’s attitudes towards their indifference to abortion, with some pastors and elders even kicking members out? DID WE NOT JUST HEAR, oh, I don’t know, EVERY FREAKING SUNDAY THAT WE JUST HAVE TO PREACH THE GOSPEL? Oh, NOW you want your pastor to “step outside of the pulpit” and address something, that in the American “Christian’s” mind, has nothing to do with the gospel? NOW you want to talk about loving your neighbor? NOW you want your pastor to take a role in politics? You’re late to the game, my friend. Welcome to the full counsel of God.

3: The government is finally reaping tangible benefits from their indoctrination, en masse.

“Gentlemen, congratulations. You’re everything we’ve come to expect from years of government training.”

So said Zed from Men in Black to failed recruits, but now, this quote has actual meaning. This really is the result that the government wants from years of public indoctrination: good, little sheep that never question, only obey, and what’s more, shout down everyone who questions their god’s decisions. I assure you, the results from this event are pleasing to every institution and tyrant that desires the end of what little liberty we have left.

4: Christians in this country who were “all about the founding fathers” yesterday are questionably shrugging their shoulders over the freedom to peacefully assemble today.

This one just blows my mind. Really, weren’t all these freedom loving Republicans always quoting the founding fathers on their keyboards? Weren’t they just using phrases like “they died to preserve our freedoms” and “they knew what they were doing when they wrote that Constitution”? What in the world happened to all of you freedom jockeys?

5: Christians do not (but need to) understand the difference between what is immoral and what is illegal.

Friend, do you find yourself taking the “if-it’s-smart-or-safe-then-it-should-be-mandated” approach? Have you said “there should be a law” in the last 90 days? Do you care more about safety than freedom? Then you are eligible to receive the “trying to serve two masters” approach. You, yes you, believe that God needs man’s help. God never gave a penalty if one violates the law of “where ten or more are gathered, there the corona virus is”, so now we need some numbskull in an office to do it. Thank you, Mr. Numbskull.

“Oh,” say you, “it’s the right thing to do. It’s how we love our neighbor”. Brother, let me tell you about how eating healthy food is loving God and loving your neighbor. Give me a health crisis and a few victims, and I’ll pass so much legislation banning all unhealthy food in the name of “loving your neighbor” that we’d soon storm Hershey and trash the place. Sound like a good idea? Who cares? The question is “what does the Bible say”? James 4:12 says “There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy.” We know all we need to know about what should be illegal, and what should not.

Just because it might be sinful does not mean it should be illegal.

Friends, consider these things. Consider how the “body” of the church moves when they care about something. If we could only care aboutand prioritize the right things. How do we know the difference? The Bible clearly outlines what is right and wrong, what is legal and illegal, and what is lawful and unlawful. Look to it to guide the Church. Look to it to guide the family. Now, look to it to guide the state. Do not“go beyond what is written”(1 Cor 4:6). Read that whole verse, because it says that it’s “for your benefit.”
