“Let’s move on and talk about something else” has been commonly said of the Covid-19 scam for weeks. That would be a great idea under the following conditions:
1. The propaganda and the violation of liberties were over.
2. Those who fell for the scam (the majority of the population) had repented and learned a lesson. And
3. The few who understood what was going on and pleaded to avoid the mayhem and destruction had received apologies or at least acknowledgements from the blind actors who ridiculed them for having clear vision.
None of those conditions have been met. Not even close. In fact, having smelled blood from the nearly total absence of pushback from an apathetic and compliant public and church, the power hungry bureaucrats and politicians have doubled down and are imposing an increasing list of demands, and proposing that they will stay in place indefinitely, to be turned on and off at their will on a daily basis. So much for planning any meaningful activity or enterprise. Or going out and enjoying yourself. Or getting through a day without some moron implying that you are a bad person because you are not bowing to the edicts. Even in the red/yellow/green color-coded tyrannies in many states, “green” is defined with all the conditions and requirements to be decided daily. “Be good subjects, and I’ll let you go “green”, which means that “I will be nice each day as I tell you what you must and may not do”. It’s still a question whether most churches will close again when the hysteria is fanned over the “second wave”. Most likely they will.
So no, it’s NOT time to move on and talk about something else, and yes, it IS a big deal. Fear, ignorance, and a lack of respect for others led to slavery and Japanese internment camps in the past. Without delving into “what’s worse” arguments, while the present situation is not as outwardly and obviously egregious, it is a broad and all-encompassing tyranny outside the legitimate rule of law. In the 1920’s, when the government got the bright idea of outlawing alcoholic beverages, it was at least recognized that it would be necessary to amend the Constitution. Not so today; it’s just “do as I say”.
The casual acceptance of this by a large majority of people is disturbing. The acceptance of it by experienced Christians and especially pastors breaks the “disturbing” meter and moves up to “shocking”. What is happening here is NOTHING LESS than a transition from liberty under the rule of law to tyranny where daily activities are specified and regulated day by day by a dictatorial regime with power unchecked by courts, legislatures, or any democratic process.
Let’s dispense with talk of Muslim takeovers, balance of power with Chinese Communism or Russian power, the terrorist threat, or for that matter the consequences of Black Lives Matter, if we are willing to cave in and live with the flat-out tyranny of the Covid-19 manipulators. Anyone who thinks that a productive free enterprise society can prosper under these conditions lacks understanding. If we don’t ACTIVELY oppose this, our children and number of generations will never experience the liberty that we used to have. And it’s a crying shame that so many Christians seem to care so little.
