Federal data show that nearly 5 million mothers have used the abortion pill over the past two decades.
On December 16, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated that mifepristone — used alongside another substance called misoprostol — has been used in the United States by “approximately 4.9 million women” since its approval in 2000. Beyond millions of preborn children, 26 women have died from complications related to the abortion pill.
The revelation comes as the FDA removes the requirement that the abortion pill “be dispensed only in certain healthcare settings, specifically clinics, medical offices, and hospitals.” The new development will now allow the abortion pill to be sent via mail — and potentially purchased or acquired online.
